Colliers Wood is gridlocked for months. One simple change would get it moving.
The whole area has ground to a halt.
The A24 through Colliers Wood High Street is dug up for major roadworks. With no clear way through, traffic now backs up solidly from Tooting to Wimbledon, and from Tooting to Mitcham — all day.
This is no longer an inconvenience. Emergency and hospital access is at risk, carers can’t reach the people they look after, and hundreds of idling vehicles are pushing fumes across homes and schools every day.
Let cars use Christchurch Road.
Christchurch Road runs off the High Street, but it’s restricted to buses only. Opening it to general traffic — even just while the works last — gives everyone a route around the dug-up stretch.
It already exists
No building, no budget, no waiting. The road is there and empty. It just needs the bus-only restriction lifted.
It relieves the whole corridor
An alternative route pulls traffic off the blocked High Street and unlocks the queues from Tooting to Wimbledon and Mitcham.
It can be temporary
We’re asking for access for the duration of the roadworks — a temporary order while the emergency lasts.
The catch: the restriction sits with Transport for London and Merton Council. They will only act if enough of us ask. That’s where you come in.

One resident is easy to ignore. A hundred, all writing in the same week, is not. Do as many of these as you can — and add one line about how the gridlock affects you personally, because individual messages count for far more than identical copies.
